Reading the model code
Datalogic photoelectric sensors use a structured code. Following the same system as the S5N series:
- S50 – the sensor series
- PA – plastic housing with axial (straight) optics
- 5 – M12 connector
- B01 – the optical function; in Datalogic codes B01 is used for polarized retroreflective versions
- PP – PNP output
Always confirm the exact sensing range and wiring in the datasheet before installing.
How a retroreflective sensor works
The sensor sends a light beam to a reflector mounted opposite. When an object breaks the beam, the output switches. The polarizing filter helps the sensor ignore shiny objects that could otherwise reflect light back like the reflector. Wiring is needed on one side only, which makes installation across conveyors simple.
