A safety light curtain creates an invisible field of infrared beams across a machine opening. When a hand or body part breaks the field, the curtain switches off its safety outputs and the machine stops. The Datalogic SG2 is a Type 2 safety light curtain for hand protection on machines with moderate risk.

In the model code, 30 is the resolution in mm and the next three digits are the protected height in cm (015 = 150 mm).
Is Type 2 enough for my machine?
Type 2 (PL c, SIL 1) suits lower and medium risk machines. High-risk machines such as power presses usually need a Type 4 curtain. The required level comes from your machine’s risk assessment, so check it with your safety engineer before ordering.
Choosing the height and mounting
- Pick a protected height that covers the full opening an operator can reach through.
- Mount the curtain at the safety distance from the hazard. This distance depends on the machine stopping time and the curtain response time, as set out in EN ISO 13855.
- Make sure nobody can reach over, under or around the protected field.
- Connect both OSSD outputs to a suitable safety relay or safety PLC.
