A rotary encoder turns the rotation of a shaft into electrical pulses. Machines use these pulses to measure speed, position and length, for example on conveyors, cutting machines, printing machines and motors. The Datalogic ENC58 is an industrial incremental encoder with a Ø58 mm aluminium body.

All models run on 5 … 30 Vdc with a Smart Push-Pull / Line Driver output, count up to 100 kHz, turn up to 6000 rpm continuously, are rated IP64 and work from -25 to 85 °C.
Reading the code
In ENC58-S10-2048-C15, ENC58 is the Ø58 mm series, S10 a solid 10 mm shaft, 2048 the pulses per revolution (PPR), and C15 a 1.5 m cable (M23 means a connector).
How to choose an encoder
- Resolution: more pulses per revolution give finer position and smoother low-speed control. Check that your counter or PLC input can handle the frequency: PPR × rpm ÷ 60.
- Shaft: match the shaft diameter to your coupling (6 or 10 mm).
- Connection: a cable is simple; an M23 connector makes replacement faster.
- Output: the Smart Push-Pull / Line Driver output works with both push-pull and line-driver inputs; long cable runs favour line-driver wiring.
Example: a 2048 PPR encoder at 3000 rpm produces about 102 kHz, which is close to the 100 kHz limit, so a 1000 or 2000 PPR model may be the better choice at that speed.
